Kindness. It sounds soft and gentle, but it’s actually pretty darn fierce.
I have a half jokey strategy when dealing with difficult people at work – I kill them with kindness. I’m not just ‘nice’ or ‘polite’; those are different, more superficial things.
I’ve rarely found a person who doesn’t eventually crack and become a nicer person as a result of unrelenting kindness.
And, I’ll admit, it feels good to see a person’s total puzzlement at receiving a teaspoon of kindness in return for a dollop of mean.
Is there anything more disarming than treating someone poorly and having them react by being kind?
